HOW LONG CAN I WORK AT CAMP?
We typically open camp in early June during staff training, and will remain open until mid-October. While we have the most staff (about 35) during youth camps in June, July and August, we retain facility and kitchen staff for the entire season.
DO I HAVE TO LIVE AT CAMP?
Most of our staff are required to live on camp in McCall due to the demands of the job, however we do have positions available for local residents. Paradise Point provides room and board to all employees.
CAN I BE A COUNSELOR OR STAFF MEMBER IF I AM TRANS* OR NONBINARY?
Yes! Paradise Point values being an inclusive camp and space for all. We put our campers in cabins that they are most comfortable being in. Our staff are treated the same. As youth care professionals your commitment to safety and care of campers is more important than your gender expression.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Anyone over 18 (by June 24) can apply, or 17 year olds who have gone through our leadership development program. You must be willing to work with youth in an outdoor, rustic environment.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Once offered a job, we will send a detailed list of things to bring with you to camp. If you are unable to provide your own things such as a sleeping bag, Paradise Point can provide a limited amount of bedding. Note: we prioritize giving camp supplies to international staff.
DO I HAVE TO BE THERE THE ENTIRE SUMMER?
No! We require that all staff attend our staff training week in order to prepare you better for the summer. We have a two week minimum for paid staff (not including staff training). If you have other commitments during the summer, please let us know during the interview process. Note that leadership staff are there for the entirety of the youth camp season.
CAN I APPLY ONCE THE SUMMER HAS ALREADY STARTED?
Yes! Leadership positions will often fill up before the season starts, however, we are always willing to have additional counseling and support staff throughout the summer. Contact us to see which positions are available.
WHAT AREAS CAN I SPECIALIZE IN?
Paradise Point offers a variety of trainings for staff to specialize in. Some of these include: lifeguarding, ropes course, archery/axe throwing, ceramics/arts and crafts, outdoor education, etc.
DO I HAVE TO BE CHRISTIAN?
No! Paradise Point is an equal opportunity employer and we hire people of all races, origins, and faiths. Our programs are designed to allow staff and campers of all religions to participate in meaningful ways. Applicants should be comfortable living and working in a Christian setting. WHY CAMP NAMES?
Paradise Point implemented camp names in 2017. Camp names have now become a part of our camp traditions, and helps the staff have an identity outside of their "normal" life. Camp names also allow you some privacy online after camp. The short answer is, they're just super fun!
WHAT ARE THE COVID PROTOCOLS FOR STAFF?
In order to keep us and our community safe, Paradise Point strongly recommends being vaccinated for COVID-19. We do not require staff to be vaccinated. Our 2024 summer policies have not yet been set. In 2023 we provided COVID tests to anyone feeling unwell and had initial COVID testing during staff training as staff traveled from near and far to join at Paradise Point Camp. IF I'M NOT A COUNSELOR, DO I STAY WITH KIDS IN CABINS?
Paradise Point provides on-site housing for all staff, including non-counselor staff members. We have multiple staff only cabins, where staff room with each other. These cabins have electricity, however bathrooms are provided in our "Staff Bath" building.
WHAT DOES A DAILY SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE FOR STAFF?
Our wake-up bell rings every morning at 7:30am, and breakfast is at 8am. From there, the day is packed with many activities for campers, which our staff lead. All staff members get a minimum of 2 hours off a day, which in that time they may do what they wish. Our campers are usually in bed by 10:30pm, with their counselors. Our camps run Monday 2pm-Saturday 11am. Staff are guaranteed a minimum of 24 hours off a week. Please follow the link below for more detailed day to day staff schedules.
WHAT IS MCCALL LIKE?
McCall is a small resort style town, and a popular tourist destination, especially during Independence Day. McCall is in the heart of the Payette National Forest, surrounded by the Payette Lake (seen in many of our camp photos). McCall has a couple of grocery stores including a local Albertsons with a Starbucks inside, as well as some other local restaurants. McCall also includes a popular ski resort, Brundage. Native American tribes such as the Shoshone and the Nez Perce were the first inhabitants of the area. Camp is located about 20 minutes outside of town,
