FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (AND THEIR ANSWERS)
WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO THE STAFF RECEIVE?
All of Paradise Point Camp's counselors and staff are First Aid/CPR/AED certified for adults and children. Specialty staff must hold in-date certifications for their area (lifeguards, ropes course, target sports) and kitchen staff must hold in-date Food Handler's Permits. Youth Camp staff spend a week training in safety, camper issues (homesickness, interpersonal conflict) and delivering a high-quality, fun camp experience. All staff and overnight volunteers participate in Safeguarding God's Children training (childhood abuse awareness and prevention) and pass state and federal background checks. Paradise Point Camp is a proud member of the American Camp Association since 2011, upholding the highest industry standards in safety and professionalism.
CAN CHILDREN USE THEIR CELLPHONES WHILE THEY’RE AT CAMP?
No. Paradise Point is a tech-free camp, allowing campers to make meaningful connections with each other, nature, and God. Campers staying over between multiple weeks of camp may use their devices on stayover days. Phones, tablets, or other electronic devices sent to camp will be safely stored by staff and returned on departure day. Exceptions are made for digital cameras and campers must abide by our digital camera policy.
CAN I SEND MAIL TO MY CHILD?
Absolutely. In Paradise Point Camp tradition, any camper that receives 3 letters/emails in a day or a package has the option to be thrown in the lake or sing a song (one time per camper per week). Please do not send food, gum or any peanut products. Parent-to-camper emails can be set up and purchased through UltraCamp.
Mail can be slow getting to McCall, please give us grace as we and the post office handle high volumes of packages and letters each week.
Want to drop-off a package at check-in? Great! Please have the camper's name clearly marked and the date to be delivered. (Remember, no food please).
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO CAMPERS PARTICIPATE IN?
WHAT IS BROWN BEAR?
Brown Bear is the name of Paradise Point Camp's Camp Store. Campers can visit once per day and purchase snacks, beverages, camp merch (stickers, water bottles, etc.) and more. Snacks and sodas are limited to 2 items per camper per day. Campers typically spend under $20 at Brown Bear per week. Funds can be loaded into a camper's account on UltraCamp or at arrival.
THE CAMP I WANT TO SEND MY CAMPER TO IS FULL- WHAT NOW?
If your camper's desired week of camp at Paradise Point Camp is full, register your camper through UltraCamp and they will automatically be added to a waitlist. Changes often happen leading up to camp. If a spot opens up for your camper you will receive an email notice and a 72 hour window to claim your camper's spot before the next person on the list is contacted. In the 2 weeks leading up to the camp session, the window for claiming a spot becomes 24 hours and you will also receive a phone call if a spot becomes available. Please be courteous of other families on the waitlist and let us know if your camper needs to be removed from a waitlist for any session.
HOW DO CABIN-MATE REQUESTS WORK?
During registration campers can request 1 cabin-mate. If the request is mutual (both campers request each other), and campers are within a 3 year age range, it will be granted. Paradise Point Camp can't guarantee non-mutual cabin-mate requests and will not accommodate large friend groups bunking together. Camp is a place to build new friendships and campers will interact with people outside their cabin throughout the day.

Campers that are attending consecutive weeks of camp have the option to "stayover" at Paradise Point Camp between camp sessions for an additional fee. Campers enjoy a more laid-back camp weekend, do their laundry, rest and prepare for another awesome week at camp. Paradise Point Camp Staff supervise campers at all times. Some of the camp programs available during stayovers include: target sports, ceramics, waterfront time, boat rides (depending on numbers), exploring downtown McCall, and Sunday Service at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in McCall.
WHAT IF MY CAMPER IS TRANS* OR LGBTQIA+?
We as a camp and an Episcopal ministry are proud to support our LGBTQIA+ staff, campers, and community. If your camper is trans* or nonbinary, register your camper as the gender they live in. Please mark if your camper would be most comfortable/safe in a male or female cabin. We hope to soon have the space for all gender cabins, but we aren't there yet. All cabins have private changing spaces, bathrooms and showers have stall doors that close. Staff are trained to keep conversations, games, and play appropriate for all ages.
